As the sun visits us less and the days get shorter, I wanted to share some of my holiday pictures from Kos, a Greek island. Our hotel was close to the beach and you could even see the city lights from Turkey when it was dark. We arrived at night when the temperature was quite mild. Because I couldn’t sleep, I decided to open the balcony door for fresh air. The heat and the scent that wafted in through the door overwhelmed me and took me back to my last trip to Ghana because the air was so humid. Couple that with the fact that the sun had just gone up to reveal an incredible view of two mountainous islands (Kalimnos and Pserimos), and it really felt like Mother Nature had just slapped me, but in a loving way.

Kos has the perfect combination of mountains and beaches. The island is fairly small and you can drive from one end of the island to the other in a day. We rented a beach buggy for a day, and it was all fun and games until we had to drive up (and back down) a winding mountain road. I couldn’t relax until we were back on flat, straight roads.

The food in Kos was delicious. We basically ate at the same place 80 % of the time. The owner and his family were very welcoming. Since last year, I have realised that fruit and vegetables tend to taste a lot better in warm countries. As someone who loves food, it’s kind of upsetting to realise that you have to travel hours to taste a decent tomato.

These pictures were taken in Kos Town, where amidst bustling city streets, there are still reminders of other times, such as the ruins near the Ancient Agora. It’s amazing to see that places like this still exist, and makes you wonder which of our architecture will remain after we’re gone.
