Jacket/Jacke – Waterlooplein, Amsterdam

Skirt/Rock – Forever 21

Sunglasses/Sonnenbrille – H&M

Chain/Kette – Second hand

Bangle/Armreif – Topshop

The minute I saw this jacket, I immediately knew I had to buy it. I love bold designs and I love silk scarves, so this was the perfect combination. Some of my friends will see this jacket and think ‚this is definitely a Karen jacket‘. I was more than happy to pay 15 € for it. I know this jacket won’t be to a lot of people’s tastes, but life is too short to care about whether people like what you wear. When I was in Amsterdam, I realised that vintage clothing is not that expensive there. Unfortunately in most of Germany, the vintage scene is not that established. Which is weird, because we’re a nation known for recycling. What could be more like recycling than buying vintage clothing?!

What I love about vintage clothing is that you’re buying a piece of clothing that had a ‚life‘ before you bought it. It makes me wonder what the person before me experienced when wearing this particular piece, and what made them give it away. When I give away my clothes, it’s down to two explanations: a) I got bored of it b) My wardrobe is too small. Option b) was the reason why I was more inclined to get rid of clothes in the past year. It was actually quite good for me as it made me get rid of a lot of ‚boring‘ pieces that I bought when I didn’t feel like making a splash.

I picked the title because the jacket reminded me of Salt-N-Pepa’s jackets in the Push It video (sorry in advance for the ear worm you’re about to have). The video has shoulder pads and undercuts galore, what’s not to love?

Hope you’re all having a great week!
