Heute schreibe ich absichtlich zwei verschiedene Texte, wobei das Thema ähnlich ist.

Diese Woche habe ich mich dazu entschieden, Facebook deutlich weniger zu nutzen. Es gab mehrere Gründe warum ich weniger Lust hatte, auf der Seite unterwegs zu sein, aber was das Fass zum überlaufen brachte, war ein flüchtiger Blick auf ein Foto von Aylan Kurdi, einem syrischen Kind, der tot am Strand lag. Ich persönlich finde es nicht nötig, das Bild zu teilen und verlinke mal, was andere dazu sagen: 1  2  3  (eine Übersicht gibt es auf bildblog , das Bild ist in den angegebenen Links nicht zu sehen)

Die Zahl der Geflüchteten, die momentan nach Deutschland kommt, ist Grund genug, um zu Potte zu kommen und aktiv zu werden (wenn man die Ressourcen und die Zeit hat).

Ein bisschen was zum Outfit: die Schuhe und die Tasche sind aus Ankara gemacht (nicht die Stadt), eine Art von Stoff, die hauptsächlich aus Westafrika kommt. Ich habe sie damals zu meinem Abiball getragen, aber mittlerweile verstauben sie in meinem Kleiderschrank, weil die Schuhe ein kleines bisschen zu hoch für den Alltag sind.

This week I decided to drastically cut down on my facebook usage. There were various factors that drove my decision, but the straw that broke the camel’s back was seeing a very short glance of Aylan Kurdi, a Syrian child lying dead on the beach. There are many reasons why I think sharing this picture is not helpful at all, but there are other people who are much better at formulating their thoughts on the matter than I am, so I recommend this article.

The British press continues to baffle me, as some were referring to refugees as cockroaches and other dehumanising terms in the past few months; but with the picture of Aylan Kurdi , they pretty much did a 180 and decided that supporting refugees was a worthy cause after all.

I’m not even going to go into the fact that the UK government seems to be dragging its feet on helping the refugees, when a few centuries ago, they were very keen to build an empire, which involved moving into or let’s say migrating to various countries around the world.

A little something about my outfit: the shoes and the bag are made from Ankara, a style of fabric originating from West Africa. I bought them ages ago for prom and haven’t worn them since as the shoes are just that tiny bit too high for everyday life.
